Polydioxanone is a synthetic material used to manufacture surgical sutures and threads. It is a totally biocompatible, absorbable and sterile. Polydioxanone threads are implanted using needles of different sizes and calibres. They trigger a biological effect due to a fibroblast reaction and trigger self-induction of type I and III collagen around the implanted threads. Polydioxanone material is reabsorbed by the body within six to eight months, but the collagen fibres generated last for more than 12 months.
