IPL
Indication
IPL Skin Treatments using Photo Rejuvenation will effectively:
In addition to improving uneven skin colour, sun damage, facial redness (Rosacea), and pigmentation, the heat energy stimulates new collagen production beneath the skin surface, firming and rejuvenating the skin. After a series of IPL treatments at intervals spaced 4 weeks apart, the skin will appear more luminous, brighter and smoother. Improvements can be seen 10 days following the first treatment and enhanced results can be seen with each subsequent treatment. The results continue to improve long after the treatment, as IPL stimulates your own natural collagen to rebuild and rejuvenate the skin. |

IPL stands for Intense Pulsed Light. It’s also known as IPL laser treatment or photo rejuvenation and is a popular treatment for pigmentation, redness and skin texture and tone. As a redness and rosacea treatment, it works by using the light energy to target blood vessels and uneven skin colour underneath the outer layer of skin. |
What are the potential side effects:
The intensive light can cause slight swelling and redness in the treatment area, especially in areas where the skin is very thin or especially fragile. However, any redness or soreness typically subsides within a few hours after the procedure. In the rare cases where side effects do occur, postpone further treatments until after complete healing. The most common side effects are as follows: Discomfort – a hot sensation may last for up to an hour after treatment. A cold compress or icepack may be used if desired. Blistering – there is always a slight possibility of developing a crust or blister, this is superficial and does not result in any scarring. Change of pigment – hypo (lighter) or hyper (darker) pigmentation occurs when there has been exposure to sunlight before or after treatment. This must be avoided 3-4 weeks before and after treatment. Excessive swelling – immediately after treatment the skin may swell temporarily and should subside within hours but can last up to 7 days. Fragile skin – the skin at or near the treatment site may become fragile – avoid makeup and do not rub the area. Bruising – a bruise may appear on the treated area and can last from 5-15 days. Before you can begin an IPL treatment you must undergo a patch test to determine how the skin will react and also to ensure there are no adverse reactions to treatment. If the patch test is satisfactory a session of treatment will follow. |
Avoid Retinoids for two days before treatment
Stay out of the sun as we are unable to treat suntanned skin.
The side effects of an IPL photo facial are temporary. As each reaction differs, so does their lifespan. What to expect after IPL during the healing process:
- Redness lasts for two to five days
- Bruising may last up to two weeks
- Darkened age spots or freckles last for three to seven days
- Crusting may last up to 10 days
- Sunburn and redness persist two to five hours after treatment
It is uncommon for an individual to experience all these side effects.
It is essential to give your skin proper TLC after your IPL session. Being that your skin’s surface will become very sensitive―particularly to heat exposure, we offer a list of recommended skincare do’s and don’t’s.
There are several simple steps you can take to ensure your post-procedure experience goes as smoothly as possible.
- Don’t take hot showers, hot baths, or bask in a hot tub for a minimum of 48 hours.
- Don’t exfoliate your skin within the first seven days as it may cause irritation.
- Don’t pick any crusting or blisters.
- Don’t exercise or participate in any strenuous physical activity. Wait at least two days to do so.
- Don’t expose your skin to the sun unprotected. Wait at least 30 days to do so.
- Don’t use skincare products that have harsh chemicals or contain high amounts of vitamin A, such as alpha-hydroxy acids, Accutane, Retin-A (tretinoin), glycolic acid and retinoic acid.
While there are a few things to avoid post IPL, there are certain things recommended for you to do. Following these quick tips can give you the best results, enhancing your skin’s natural glow:
- Do apply sunscreen with a minimum of 30 SPF. This protects your skin from UVB and UVA rays.
- Do cleanse your skin twice a day with warm water.
- Do keep your skin moist at all times using a gentle moisturizer.
- Do perform a microdermabrasion facial on areas treated with IPL. This protects and hydrates your skin while removing dead skin cells. Perform this skincare routine two or three weeks post-treatment.
- Do add AQ ACTIVE SERUM to your skin regimen to increase collagen repair and give your skin a smooth and healthy appearance.
