Rosacea Treatment

Rosacea Treatment

Rosacea is a skin condition caused by inflammation under the skin’s surface, and very few topical treatments can successfully get rid of the discomfort and redness associated with the condition.

LED therapy has been used to treat acne and other skin conditions that have resulted in hyperpigmentation of the skin. The light waves penetrate the skin’s top layer to break down damaged skin tissues and trigger collagen production, which helps to rapidly restore the skin.

Roy Geronemus, M.D., clinical professor of dermatology at Langone Medical Center of New York University has reported continued success with a combination of LED therapy and intense pulsed light treatments. He uses the LED therapy for patients who have mild cases of rosacea, and as a complement to laser therapy for more severe cases. The waves have an anti-inflammatory effect which helps calm down the skin and reduces redness almost immediately. (Source: ModernMedicine.com)

There are now several LED machines that may help those who are suffering from rosacea. LED has been proven to help with treating rosacea and significantly reduces redness after a few sessions.

Patients interested in pursuing LED therapy can meet with our specialist to determine if they have a mild or severe form of rosacea, and review different LED treatment options. It is also essential that your skin care is reviewed by the consultant to ensure that what you are using is compatible with a skin suffering from rosacea.

LED Light Therapy For Rosacea Treatment

The body is made up of cells that are generally capable of healing and reproducing on their own using naturally occurring cellular energy known as adenosine triphospate or ATP. When the skin is damaged, ATP stimulates cell regeneration to heal and restore the injured area.

Factors such as poor nutrition, a person’s age, and the general condition of the skin determine how slow or how fast cells may heal. Scientific studies also found that light can stimulate the production of ATP for better cell renewal otherwise known as photo rejuvenation. Skin care specialists take advantage of the therapeutic effects of light by using LED (for Light Emitting Diode Technology) to heal skin conditions during a light therapy session. Not just any light ray may be used to stimulate skin cells. There are harmful rays that can burn the skin or cause skin cancer. LED is ideal for light therapy because it emits a low level power that does not irritate or burn the skin.

    Rosacea Treatment Session

You may start a session with a microdermabrasion procedure to remove dead skin cells for more effective light penetration. Specific lights are then beamed at areas to be treated for a few minutes. Depending on ones age, skin tone, diet, and lifestyle, results may be observed immediately or after a series of sessions held one week apart.

Some may need 6 to 8 sessions to see dramatic results on their skin. In between sessions, the specialist may prescribe topical skin treatments or a skin care regimen to complement and boost the effects of the LED light therapy sessions. Maintenance treatment may also follow at least once or twice a month.
