Laser Hair Removal

Treatment Description

Pain-Free, Hair-Free™ is our gold standard laser hair removal treatment, and it truly is for everyone. Safe for all skin types, all hair types, and most hair colours, it can even be used on tanned skin.

Using cutting-edge medical diode laser technology with an 810 nm wavelength (the gold standard for laser hair removal) Pain-Free, Hair-Free™ delivers a permanent, predictable, and virtually painless solution to unwanted hair. The system uses unique IN-Motion™ technology combined with a patented DualChill™ treatment tip that continuously cools the skin surface during treatment, making it one of the most comfortable laser hair removal experiences available. Many patients describe the sensation as similar to a warm hot-stone massage.

Unlike older laser systems that fire single high-energy pulses at the skin, Pain-Free, Hair-Free™ uses a sweeping, gradual heating method (Super Hair Removal – SHR) that safely raises the temperature of the hair follicle to a level that damages it and prevents future regrowth, without trauma to the surrounding tissue. This also eliminates the missed spots common with older technology, ensuring consistent, full-coverage results.

The treatment also carries an additional aesthetic benefit: by targeting and destroying hair follicles, laser hair removal can help reduce breakouts and congestion on the face, scalp, and body, particularly in areas prone to folliculitis or acne aggravated by hair follicle activity.

What to Expect

  • Consultation: Before your first session, a consultation is conducted to assess your skin type, hair colour, and treatment areas, and to confirm your suitability. Protective eyewear will be provided throughout all treatment sessions.
  • The Procedure: The Pain-Free, Hair-Free™ handpiece is moved across the treatment area in smooth, continuous sweeping motions, gradually heating the hair follicles to the temperature required to destroy them, while the DualChill™ tip simultaneously keeps the skin surface cool and comfortable. Most patients experience no more than a mild warmth during treatment.
  • Treatment Time: Session length depends on the size of the area being treated, from a few minutes for a small area such as the upper lip, to approximately 30 minutes for larger areas such as the legs or back.
  • Hair Shedding: Treated hairs do not fall out immediately. Over the seven to fourteen days following each session, the treated hairs will gradually shed as the damaged follicles release them. This is completely normal and is a sign the treatment is working.
  • Number of Sessions: Hair grows in cycles, and the laser is only effective on hairs in the active (anagen) growth phase. Since not all follicles are in this phase simultaneously, multiple sessions are needed to treat all the hair in a given area. Typically, four to ten sessions are required to achieve more than 80% permanent hair reduction, with sessions spaced approximately four weeks apart.
  • Maintenance: Once the initial course is complete, occasional maintenance top-up sessions (approximately once a year) are recommended to address any hairs from dormant follicles that may be stimulated by hormonal changes over time.

Benefits

  • Virtually Pain-Free: The unique IN-Motion™ and DualChill™ technology make this one of the most comfortable laser hair removal systems available. Most clients describe the sensation as a warm, soothing experience similar to a hot-stone massage.
  • Safe for All Skin Types: The SHR gradual heating method is clinically proven safe for all skin tones, including dark and ethnic skin types, where older single-pulse laser systems carry a higher risk of burns or pigmentation.
  • Suitable for Tanned Skin: Unlike many laser systems that cannot be used on tanned skin, Pain-Free, Hair-Free™ can be safely performed year-round, including on tanned skin.
  • Permanent Hair Reduction: FDA-cleared since 2005, the treatment provides permanent and progressive reduction in hair regrowth, with most clients achieving more than 80% permanent reduction after a full course.
  • Full Coverage, No Missed Spots: The continuous sweeping IN-Motion™ technology eliminates the gaps and missed spots common with older pulsed laser systems, ensuring consistent results across the entire treatment area.
  • Reduces Breakouts & Folliculitis: By targeting and removing hair follicles, laser hair removal can significantly reduce follicle-related breakouts, ingrown hairs, and skin congestion on the face, scalp, and body.
  • No Downtime: Treatment requires no recovery time. Clients can return to work, school, or normal activities immediately after each session.

Preparation Instructions

  • Shave: Please ensure all areas to be treated are freshly shaved on the morning of or the evening before your appointment. Therapists are not able to shave you on the day of your session.
  • Sun Exposure & Fake Tan: Ensure there is no active suntan on the areas to be treated. All fake tan, bronzing products, and self-tanner must be completely removed before your appointment.
  • Waxing & Plucking: Do not wax, pluck, or thread the treatment areas for at least four weeks before your appointment. These methods remove the hair root, which is the target of the laser. Shaving is the only permitted hair removal method between sessions.
  • Cold Sores: Cold sores are a contraindication for facial treatment. If you are prone to cold sores, begin your preferred antiviral treatment two days before your laser session. Treatment cannot be performed on an active cold sore.
  • Medications: Inform your practitioner of any photosensitising medications (such as certain antibiotics or Accutane). Accutane use requires a twelve-month wait before laser treatment is appropriate.
  • Arrive Clean: Come to your appointment with clean skin, free of perfume, deodorant, and skincare products in the areas to be treated.

Aftercare

  • ⚠️ Crucial Rule: Apply SPF 30 or higher daily throughout your treatment programme. Sun exposure between sessions can affect results and increase the risk of pigmentation changes in the treated areas.
  • Night of Treatment: Allow the skin to settle and avoid applying any active products to the treated areas.
  • Day After Treatment: The treated hairs will not fall out immediately, they will shed gradually over seven to fourteen days as the damaged follicles release them. This is a positive sign that the treatment is working. If any skin sensitivity is present, apply a soothing aloe vera gel to calm the area.
  • Day 14: By now you should begin to notice a visible reduction in the number of hairs in the treated area, a rewarding early sign of your results building.
  • Ongoing Aftercare: Avoid excessive heat (including saunas, steam rooms, hot baths, and strenuous exercise) for 24 hours following each treatment session. Apply a minimum SPF 30 to all treated areas daily throughout your treatment programme. Mild redness or swelling is extremely rare but may occur and typically subsides within 24 to 48 hours. If a heat rash or hives develop, an antihistamine is advised. In the rare event of blistering or weeping, keep the area clean and dry until fully healed. Do not pop or pick blisters. You may shave between sessions. Do not wax, pluck, or thread.

FAQ

Is it safe?
Yes. Laser hair removal is one of the most extensively researched and widely performed aesthetic treatments in the world. Pain-Free, Hair-Free™ has provided permanent hair reduction for thousands of patients worldwide since it was cleared by the FDA in 2005. The light energy used is infrared, which is non-ionising and not carcinogenic. When performed by a trained practitioner, it is a safe and well-established treatment for all skin types.

Is it painful?
Most people find Pain-Free, Hair-Free™ very comfortable. The unique IN-Motion™ technology and DualChill™ cooling tip are specifically designed to minimise discomfort throughout the session. While pain tolerance is subjective, many clients describe the sensation as soothing, similar to a warm hot-stone massage. If at any point you find it uncomfortable, speak with your therapist and they can adjust the settings accordingly.

How many treatments will I need?
The exact number of sessions varies depending on factors including the treatment area, hair colour, hair density, skin type, and individual hormonal profile. Generally, four to ten treatments are required to permanently reduce hair regrowth by more than 80%, six months after the last treatment. Sessions are typically spaced four weeks apart. Your practitioner will advise on the expected course at your consultation.

Will my hair grow back?
Once a hair follicle is sufficiently damaged by the laser, it cannot produce new hair. However, a small number of follicles may partially escape treatment during each session, and dormant follicles can sometimes be activated by hormonal changes later in life. This is why occasional annual maintenance top-up sessions are recommended to keep any stray hairs at bay and maintain your results long-term.

Will I need to take time off work?
No. Pain-Free, Hair-Free™ requires no downtime or recovery time whatsoever. You can have a treatment and return to work, school, or your normal activities immediately afterwards.

Can laser hair removal be used on dark or ethnic skin?
Yes. The SHR (Super Hair Removal) gradual heating method used in Pain-Free, Hair-Free™ is clinically proven to be safe for all skin tones, including dark and ethnic skin types. Unlike older single-pulse laser systems, which carry a higher risk of burns or hyperpigmentation on skin with higher melanin levels, the SHR method gradually heats the follicle without trauma to the surrounding tissue, making it the safest laser hair removal option for darker skin types.

Can I have laser hair removal on tanned skin?
Yes, this is one of the key advantages of Pain-Free, Hair-Free™. Unlike many laser systems that cannot safely treat tanned skin, this technology can be used year-round, including on skin with a natural or light tan. However, fake tan and bronzing products must be completely removed before treatment, as these create an artificial surface pigment that can interfere with the laser and increase the risk of adverse reactions.
